Chipping away in an uncelebrated manner
It is easy for an athlete to train hard when he or she has an audience - ego comes into lay - and we are motivated to put our best foot forward. The problem with becoming over-reliant on our ego - in it’s part-time role as coach - is that when we find ourselves alone, with no audience, or other external motivation (coach, teacher, etc) - then what drives us to do our best? Acquiring the habit of being able to train hard, when no-one is watching - is a habit definitely worth cultivating. Chip away, in an uncelebrated manner … alone, drenched in sweat … this is how you get shite done!
